One of the absolutely not-to-miss events of Venice is certainly the Festival of the Cinema. Already arrived at its 66th edition, it has not lost even a bit of its charm and its red carpet every year sees parade the best international and national actors.
This year the Festival will be held from 2 to 9 of August, and now there are already the first confirms and rumors on what we will see in that wonderful frame. For those who want to spend a week end in Venice, this could be a great moment to admire one of the events with most resonance at world level. The guidelines of this edition are already defined. It was known for some time that also this year, the director of the Festival will be Marco Muller, whose previous managements had satisfied almost totally public and crisis. The 66th Festival also reconfirms the traditional sections in which it is structured. The only novelty here is the re-proposition of the competitive section "Controcampo": its aim is to provide a broader overview on the film industry of participating countries. The other sections are "Venezia66", "Orizzonti" and "Corto Cortissimo".
Another big event connected to the Festival is the re-See, 50 years after the Golden Lion, of "The Great War" (1959) a masterpiece by Mario Monicelli, starring Alberto Sordi and Vittorio Gassman, as reconstructed in the long version by the National Film Library, under the supervision of the director of photography Giuseppe Rotunno. The masterpiece will be screened in Campo San Polo in the day of pre-opening of the Festival International Film Festival, September 1 2009.
To inaugurate the exhibition there will be Baara by Giuseppe Tornatore, this is the first Italian film after 20 years to inaugurate the exhibition in Venice, and represents the most demanding production of the Italian film industry for many years.
These few advances will already make mouth water to all movie lovers, the Venice Film Festival is always a big party, and a truly not to miss event for lovers of good cinema. At that time there are also a lot of hotels in Venice, which will make your stay even more enjoyable.
